A Time Capsule from 2020

To whoever may find this capsule, listen closely.

We were from the year 2020, a historical year to many of us as it was jam-packed with multiple life-changing events in one, especially in America. While it was beautiful for some, it was reckless and chaotic to others. Below we have included some of the most significant articles that existed during this year. Although a year may not be significant when compared to the many decades, centuries, and millennia before us, this year held a significant difference to us. 

 

So please, be careful with the articles we are gifting you with. Many are precious, many are dangerous, and many are delicate. Take good care of them, and use this to make sense of our human population. We may not have been the best, but all humans are capable of making mistakes.

Five objects inside Time Capsule 2020: 

Toilet Paper: FRAGILE, be very careful when handling. This delicate object erupted chaos within the United States of America, revealing exactly how chaotic the human population can be. Although generally useless, this was of high demand when the deadly virus COVID-19 began a pandemic. To this day, no one knows why humans were vying over such a useless piece of hygienic good when they could have been investing in something like food, masks, or hand sanitizer. Nonetheless, this was of high value to Americans, and some economists estimated that for a brief period of time, it had the same value as a ten-pound pure gold bar. 

Rubber Bullets: These innocent-looking “toys” are a lot more lethal than it appears. These were what we're used to putting down other human beings during a famous event called the “Black Lives Matter” movement. Although there were other BLM movements in the past, this one was significant because it rallied millions of people from across the globe to fight a singular cause: to bring attention to the mistreatment of minorities, specifically those of the black minority. During some protests, American security chose to fire rubber bullets to prevent people from continuing their fight towards justice, disrupting more chaos than necessary. This goes to prove exactly how confusing the human race is; humans are attacked with punishment for peacefully protesting for rights and better ruling over innocent deaths, whether it’s on accident or on purpose. 

Standard Mask: PLEASE DO NOT CONSUME. This was what best represented the most unexpected part of 2020: the outbreak of the COVID-19 Pandemic. This is what millions of people began stocking up on for months. The pandemic affected the entire world and closed businesses, schools, and workplaces for long periods of time. While some took it seriously, others were deluded and chose to refuse their belief in it. Many were stuck inside of their homes for months at a time, unsure of what to make of the situation. Economies began collapsing from the unsteady atmosphere of their buyers and customers. Overall, it was an event to remember.

Bicycle: A mode of transportation, used for decades before but had an especially valuable effect on 2020. With nothing to do, more and more people began to explore their surroundings and take up more hobbies, one of them including biking. While some bikes remained untouched in garages for months at a time after giving up on one’s New Year’s resolution the day after, others made good use of their time and explored their city. This was essential transportation that was used by millions in America during 2020 but will likely decline in use once COVID-19 comes to a halt. 

Biden 2020 Flag: A tense election between Donald Trump and Joe Biden was the make or breakpoint for millions of Americans. Thousands tuned in for updates on the electoral and popular vote count on November 6th, 2020, hoping for a victory from one side or the other. The traumatic events of 2020 had every politician and every person who followed politics on edge, as every vote would determine the future of the country. When Biden was announced to be the next president, some celebrated while others rioted, adding more chaos to the country. Now, all the other countries look to America with concern, unsure of what will come of the following year.
